How to build a bivouac

How long does it take to set up this? 5 minutes for a skilled scout.

What does the word bivouac mean? a temporary camp without tents or cover, used especially by soldiers or mountaineers.

What direction should the bivouac be facing? a bivouac should be facing the fire so the tent blocks off the wind.

What is the largest size a bivouac can be? 5m x 4m

If there is wet weather what should you do?  If the weather is very wet, then rather than an open sided shelter, tie the rope at a lower height and make a tent shape.

What do you do if you don't have any poles?  If you don't have any poles, tie the rope from the tree to a peg in the ground.

What is the best fire to use? The best  design of fire to use is a reflector fire, it will radiate heat into the shelter.

Were is a good place to build your bivouac? Placing your bivouac under the trees is a good idea in the colder months of the year, as you will find the trees will protect you from the cold air.
